Ms. Teresa Jiwon Kim is a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner. Working in close collaboration with our physicians, Ms. Kim provides high-quality, individualized care to our patients by supplementing their primary care physician's medical care and guidance. Ms. Kim brings a refreshing enthusiasm and positive approach to patient care. With a bright and upbeat personality, she seeks to give her patients the encouragement they need to meet their health goals. Ms. Kim shares, “By practicing moderation when necessary, and making small and consistent changes overtime, we can build better habits. In the long run, the small steps add up and ultimately lead to lasting improvements to one’s health.”

Ms. Kim graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Ecology, Behavior and Evolution from the University of California, San Diego. Still aligned with her love of science and research, and inspired by her aunt, a registered nurse, Ms. Kim went on to pursue a career in the health care field. She earned her Bachelors in Nursing at California State University, Long Beach. Shortly afterwards, Ms. Kim furthered her education by completing her Masters in Nursing, choosing to specialize in Family Medicine.

“Definitely the highlight of working in family medicine is being able to treat the whole family throughout the generations,” says Ms. Kim. “You really get to know about how a patient’s family dynamics, their culture, and history contribute to health of an individual patient. It helps to see the big picture, and from there I am able to create a more personalized plan of care that addresses their individual needs.”

Passionate about community health, disease awareness, and education, Ms. Kim emphasizes in her patient teachings the importance of disease prevention, through methods of regular screenings, healthy habits, and exercise. In providing helpful resources and guidance to her patients and their families, Ms. Kim hopes to assist in preventing the development and progression of serious common chronic diseases, especially diabetes, hypertension, cancer, and even STDs.

Ms. Kim enjoys cycling in her free time. She also supports activities that promote health awareness, and is a past participant in the AIDS/LifeCycle (ALC), a seven-day cycling tour from San Francisco to Los Angeles, to raise funds for HIV/AIDS services and raise awareness of HIV/AIDS. Ms. Kim also likes going backpacking and exploring nature.
