Dr. Niraj Karki is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease and is currently working as a hospitalist at PIH Health Hospital – Downey, as well as serving our members as an Infectious Disease specialist. His expertise in the field of infectious disease, coupled with his kind and compassionate personality makes him a reliable resource to all our members.

Dr. Karki is committed to providing excellent care to his patients, especially in the form of clear and detailed communication with both patients and their families alike. “Having good communication with patients and their families is so important, but is often lacking today in healthcare. As a hospitalist and infectious disease specialist, l make sure to spend enough time communicating with each of my patients and making sure to include their families in the conversation as well. I want to ensure that I provide a thorough explanation of a patient’s condition and treatment plan. I also make myself available to answer any of the questions and concerns they might have, so everyone can feel confident about the care they receive.”

Dr. Karki comes from a family of medical professionals, including his two sisters who are also physicians. His detailed oriented personality and ingrained passion for medicine inspired Dr. Karki’s special interest in infectious diseases, particularly HIV. He earned his medical degree from Kathmandu University, in Nepal, and completed his residency with New York University, Woodhull Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, where he was elected Best Resident of his class. Dr. Karki also completed a clinical fellowship in Infectious Disease at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. Prior to coming to PMG, Dr. Karki worked as Hospitalist and Infectious Disease specialist at The Aroostook Medical Center in Maine, and served as Medical Director of their Intensive Care Unit.
